How to use
Plan LCL cost in five clear steps.
Combine your shipment measures with the rate and known charges from a forwarder quote.
- 1
Enter shipment volume
Use the total shipment CBM from your packing list.
- 2
Enter gross weight
Add total shipment weight in kilograms.
- 3
Add your LCL rate
Enter your forwarder’s rate per revenue ton.
- 4
Add known freight charges
Include minimum, origin, destination and other known charges.
- 5
Review W/M and total cost
See whether volume or weight drives the estimate.
Use cases
What this estimator helps with.
Use one clear W/M baseline before comparing a Sea LCL freight quote or planning import cost.
LCL freight quote preparation
Prepare W/M and cost assumptions before asking a forwarder for a quote.
Supplier shipment review
Check the shipment CBM and gross weight stated on a packing list.
Forwarder quote comparison
Use one shipment baseline when comparing entered rates and charges.
Import cost planning
Bring a sea LCL estimate into an early import-cost plan.
Small shipment planning
Understand whether a small shipment is volume- or weight-driven.
Sea freight cost estimation
Combine your rate and known local charges in one planning view.
Transparent methodology
Formula & assumptions.
This tool uses a common Sea LCL W/M planning model and only the fees you enter.
Calculation formula
Weight measure = Gross weight (kg) ÷ 1,000
Volume measure = Shipment CBM
Chargeable revenue ton = greater of volume measure and weight measure
Calculated ocean freight = chargeable RT × user-entered rate
Applied ocean freight = greater of calculated freight and minimum freight charge
Estimated total = applied ocean freight + origin + destination + other charges
Effective cost / CBM = estimated total ÷ shipment CBM
Effective cost / RT = estimated total ÷ chargeable revenue ton
Estimate assumptions
- The W/M method is a common planning model; forwarder, route, carrier, CFS and contract rules vary.
- Actual quotes can include documentation, CFS, security, customs-related, terminal, fuel, delivery, storage or other local fees.
- Some forwarders apply minimum billing units or shipment sizes; this estimator does not invent those rules.
- Landivexa uses only your entered rate and charges. It is not a live freight quote or final forwarder invoice.
Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before you ship.
Understand the W/M method, minimum charges and the limits of an LCL planning estimate.
What is W/M in LCL freight?⌄
W/M compares volume measure in CBM with gross weight divided by 1,000 kg. The greater measure is commonly used as the revenue ton for planning.
What is a revenue ton?⌄
For this estimator, one revenue ton is the greater of one CBM or one metric ton of gross weight under the common W/M method.
Does this provide a live LCL quote?⌄
No. It uses only the rate, minimum and charges you enter. It does not connect to forwarder, carrier or port pricing data.
Why can volume drive LCL cost?⌄
A low-density shipment can occupy more shared container space than its weight suggests, making its CBM the higher W/M measure.
Why can weight drive LCL cost?⌄
A dense shipment can have gross weight divided by 1,000 greater than its CBM, making weight measure the higher revenue ton.
What is a minimum freight charge?⌄
Some forwarders apply a minimum ocean-freight amount. Enter it here and Landivexa clearly shows when it exceeds rate-based freight.
What local charges should I include?⌄
Add known origin handling, documentation, CFS, destination handling and other forwarder charges. Actual structures vary by route and provider.
Does this include customs or delivery?⌄
No. Customs, duty, taxes, delivery, storage and unentered charges are outside this planning estimate.
Can I use this for FCL shipping?⌄
No. This page is for Sea LCL / Less than Container Load planning only.
Does it apply a global one-CBM minimum?⌄
No. Forwarder minimum billing units vary. Use your known minimum freight charge; this estimator does not invent a global minimum rule.
