Freight & volume calculator

Chargeable Weight Calculator

Calculate shipment chargeable weight across multiple cargo types by comparing total actual and volumetric weight for air freight or express shipping.

  • Free to use
  • No sign-up required
  • Multiple cargo types

Add shipment cargo

Enter every package type. Your shipment comparison updates instantly.

Transport mode
A commonly used air-freight volumetric factor is suggested.
Measurement system
Changing units clears cargo values to prevent mixed measurements.

Your shipment occupies more space relative to its actual mass, so volumetric weight is higher under the selected divisor.

Largest volumetric contributor: Cargo 1 contributes 100.0% of total volumetric weight.

This is an Air / Express planning estimate. Sea LCL commonly uses W/M or revenue-ton logic and is calculated separately.

How to use

Calculate shipment chargeable weight in four steps.

Use a single shipment view for multiple package types, transport assumptions and a clear billing basis.

  1. 1

    Add each cargo type

Enter dimensions, quantity and actual weight for every package type.

  2. 2

    Choose transport assumptions

Select Air Freight or Express, then confirm divisor and rounding.

  3. 3

    Review shipment totals

See total actual and volumetric weight across all cargo rows.

  4. 4

    Check the billing basis

Identify the estimated shipment weight used for planning.

Use cases

What this calculator helps with.

Use a full shipment comparison before a freight enquiry, packing decision or supplier review.

Multi-carton air freight planning

Prepare one shipment view before requesting an air-freight quote.

Express shipment preparation

Compare mixed parcel sizes with their actual package weight.

Packing list review

Check supplier carton data against a shipment-level summary.

Packaging optimisation

Find the cargo type creating the largest volumetric contribution.

Transparent methodology

Formula & assumptions.

Every cargo row is visible, then compared as one shipment.

Calculation formula

Metric: Length(cm) × Width(cm) × Height(cm) ÷ Divisor = volumetric weight per package

Imperial: Length(in) × Width(in) × Height(in) ÷ Divisor = volumetric weight per package

Chargeable weight = greater of rounded shipment actual weight and rounded shipment volumetric weight

Key assumptions

  • Row actual and volumetric weights are summed across all cargo types.
  • Landivexa applies the selected rounding rule to shipment-level comparison weights for planning purposes.
  • Divisors are planning assumptions; carrier, service and contract rules may vary.
  • Air / Express only. Sea LCL uses different W/M or revenue-ton logic.
  • Results are estimates, not live freight quotes.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before you ship.

Understand how shipment actual and volumetric weight work together before requesting a quote.

What is chargeable weight?⌄

It is the shipment comparison weight used for planning. This calculator selects the greater of rounded total actual and volumetric weight.

How is chargeable weight calculated?⌄

Each cargo row is calculated first, then all actual and volumetric row totals are summed. The selected rounding rule is applied to both shipment totals before comparison.

What is the difference between actual and volumetric weight?⌄

Actual weight is physical mass. Volumetric weight represents the space a package occupies under a selected divisor.

Can I calculate multiple carton sizes?⌄

Yes. Add a cargo type for each carton or package type and Landivexa recalculates the complete shipment instantly.

Should I use 5000 or 6000?⌄

They are common metric planning examples. Confirm the divisor that applies to your carrier, service level, country and contract.

What does the 139 divisor mean?⌄

139 is a commonly used imperial dimensional divisor. It is a planning preset, not a universal carrier rule.

Does Air Freight always use 6000?⌄

No. 6000 is a common suggestion only. Carrier, service and contract rules can vary.

How does rounding affect chargeable weight?⌄

Landivexa applies your selected rounding to shipment-level comparison weights. Actual carriers may round per piece or at shipment level.

Is this calculator suitable for sea LCL?⌄

No. LCL commonly uses W/M or revenue-ton logic, which is handled separately from Air / Express chargeable-weight calculations.

Is this a live freight quote?⌄

No. This is a planning estimate based on your cargo data and assumptions; it does not fetch live carrier data.
