Add carton dimensions and quantity to see which carton type contributes most to your total shipment volume.

Carton volume comparison

Share of shipment CBM

Add a carton size to compare volume contribution.

This calculator estimates theoretical carton volume. Actual freight or container utilization can differ because of gaps, pallets, loading patterns and operational constraints.

How to use

Plan carton volume in four clear steps.

Add each carton size, choose its unit, then compare its contribution to the shipment.

  1. 1

    Add each carton size

Enter the dimensions and quantity for every carton type.

  2. 2

    Choose the correct unit

Use cm, mm or inches independently for each carton row.

  3. 3

    Review carton-level volume

See CBM per carton and total CBM for every carton type.

  4. 4

    Review shipment summary

Compare carton count, total CBM and the largest volume contributor.

Use cases

What this calculator helps with.

Use carton-specific volume details before you confirm a packing list, quote or shipment plan.

Supplier packing list review

Check each supplied carton size and its volume contribution.

Carton volume planning

Compare carton sizes before confirming packing details.

Freight quote preparation

Share a clear shipment CBM total with a freight provider.

Shipment consolidation

See which cartons have the greatest effect on combined volume.

Packaging optimization

Identify the carton type worth reviewing first for volume reduction.

Warehouse planning

Plan carton volume and quantities before receiving or dispatching goods.

Transparent methodology

Formula & assumptions.

Every carton row is converted to meters before its volume is calculated.

Calculation formula

CBM per carton = Length(m) × Width(m) × Height(m)

Carton type CBM = CBM per carton × quantity

Shipment CBM = sum of all carton type CBM

Average CBM/carton = total shipment CBM ÷ total cartons

Key assumptions

  • 1 cm = 0.01 m; 1 mm = 0.001 m; 1 in = 0.0254 m.
  • This calculator estimates theoretical carton volume, not actual container utilization.
  • Gaps, irregular shapes, pallets, loading patterns and container internal dimensions can reduce usable space.
  • Results support packing and freight planning; operational constraints can change final utilization.

Frequently asked questions

Clear answers before you ship.

Understand what carton CBM measures — and what it cannot determine on its own.

What is a carton CBM calculator?⌄

It calculates the cubic meters occupied by each carton type and sums them into a shipment total.

How is CBM per carton calculated?⌄

Landivexa converts each dimension to meters, then multiplies length × width × height.

Can I use different units for different cartons?⌄

Yes. Each carton row can use cm, mm or inches independently.

Can I calculate multiple carton sizes?⌄

Yes. Add up to 20 carton types and compare the total CBM and volume share for each one.

Does carton CBM equal container utilization?⌄

No. Gaps, pallets, irregular shapes, loading patterns, internal dimensions and operational constraints can affect usable container space.

Is CBM the same as chargeable weight?⌄

No. CBM measures physical volume. Carriers can use their own volumetric-weight rules for chargeable weight.

Can I use this for freight quote preparation?⌄

Yes. It gives a clear planning estimate for discussing shipment volume with suppliers or freight providers.

What happens if a carton quantity is zero?⌄

A zero-quantity carton does not contribute to shipment CBM, carton count or the volume comparison.
