How to use
Calculate shipment CBM in four steps.
Add every carton type, choose its unit, then review the full shipment total.
- 1
Add your package dimensions
Enter length, width and height for each carton type.
- 2
Choose the correct unit
Use cm, mm or inches for each package type.
- 3
Enter quantity
Add the number of cartons or packages for every row.
- 4
Review total CBM

Use cases
What this calculator helps with.
Use a clear volume total before comparing freight or packing options.
Freight quotation planning
Prepare shipment volume before requesting a freight quote.
LCL shipment planning
Estimate the cubic meters across your full LCL shipment.
Supplier packing list checks
Compare supplier carton dimensions against your packing list.
Packaging comparison
Compare volume across multiple carton sizes and quantities.
Transparent methodology
Formula & assumptions.
Every dimension is converted to meters before volume is calculated.
Calculation formula
CBM per package = Length × Width × Height, after converting dimensions to meters
Total CBM = CBM per package × quantity, summed across all package types
Key assumptions
- 1 cm = 0.01 m; 1 mm = 0.001 m; 1 in = 0.0254 m.
- CBM represents theoretical cargo volume, not actual container utilization.
- Pallets, gaps, stacking limits and loading orientation can reduce usable space.
- Results are estimates for planning and freight quotation purposes.
Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before you ship.
Understand what CBM measures — and what it cannot determine on its own.
What is CBM?⌄
CBM means cubic meter. It measures the volume occupied by a carton, package or shipment.
How do I calculate CBM?⌄
Convert length, width and height to meters, multiply the three dimensions, then multiply by quantity.
Can I calculate multiple carton sizes?⌄
Yes. Add a package type for every carton size and Landivexa sums the row CBM values.
Can I use inches or millimeters?⌄
Yes. Each package row can use centimeters, millimeters or inches independently.
Is CBM the same as chargeable weight?⌄
No. Chargeable weight can use volumetric formulas set by a carrier. CBM measures physical cargo volume.
Does CBM tell me how many cartons fit in a container?⌄
No. Orientation, container dimensions, weight limits, pallets and loading constraints affect usable space.
Is this calculator suitable for LCL freight?⌄
Yes. It is useful for planning and discussing estimated LCL shipment volume with a freight provider.
How accurate are the results?⌄
The formula is based on the dimensions and quantities you enter. Confirm final packing and loading details with your supplier or freight provider.
