Enter MOQ planning assumptions
Compare how supplier minimums affect cash, inventory cover and storage exposure.
Monthly sales and target cover are planning inputs. No demand forecast, inventory optimization or supplier recommendation is made.
Supplier MOQ scenarios
Your MOQ comparison
Review cash and inventory trade-offs without ranking suppliers overall.
This is a planning estimate. It does not forecast demand or recommend a supplier.
Supplier 1
MOQ 0 units · Unit price fallback
Enter an MOQ greater than zero and a unit price to include this supplier scenario.
Supplier 2
MOQ 0 units · Unit price fallback
Enter an MOQ greater than zero and a unit price to include this supplier scenario.
Storage exposure uses a transparent linear sell-through estimate within the planning horizon. Lead time is comparison context only; it does not change target inventory, cover or risk.

Formula & assumptions.
This tool compares MOQ, cash and inventory exposure only. It does not forecast demand, optimize inventory, recommend a supplier or recommend an optimal MOQ.
MOQ planning formula
Purchase commitment = MOQ × unit price
Inventory cost basis = landed cost if entered; otherwise unit price
MOQ inventory value = MOQ × inventory cost basis
Months of cover = MOQ ÷ monthly sales
Target inventory = ceil(monthly sales × target months)
Units above target = max(MOQ − target inventory, 0)
Units below target = max(target inventory − MOQ, 0)
Overstock value = units above target × inventory cost basis
Cash shortfall = max(commitment − cash available, 0)
Cash remaining = max(cash available − commitment, 0)
Cash utilization = commitment ÷ cash available
Storage and risk assumptions
- Case A — inventory sells through within the planning horizon: storage exposure = average inventory (approximately MOQ ÷ 2) × sell-through months × storage rate.
- Case B — inventory remains after the planning horizon: inventory after horizon = MOQ − monthly sales × horizon; exposure = average of opening and remaining inventory × horizon × storage rate.
- If monthly sales are zero, no sell-through is assumed: storage exposure = MOQ × horizon × storage rate.
- Overstock ratio = units above target ÷ target inventory. This is a simple rule-based planning indicator: Low has no units above target; Moderate is above 0–50%; High is above 50–100%; Very High is above 100%. If target inventory is zero, risk is not rated.
- Actual inventory risk can depend on seasonality, sales volatility, lead time, supplier reliability, reorder timing, returns, promotions, storage capacity, warehouse fees, cash-flow timing, financing and product lifecycle.
Frequently asked questions
Clear answers before you compare.
Use this tool to compare entered MOQ planning assumptions, not to predict demand or select a supplier.
What does this MOQ supplier comparison calculate?⌄
It compares MOQ purchase commitment, inventory cover, target-cover exposure, storage exposure, cash shortfall and lead-time context for two to five supplier scenarios.
Does this choose the best supplier?⌄
No. It shows entered cash and inventory trade-offs only. Quality, compliance, capacity, reliability, contract terms and supplier performance remain outside this tool.
Does this forecast sales or optimize inventory?⌄
No. Expected monthly sales and target months of cover are your planning assumptions. The tool does not create a demand forecast, reorder point or inventory recommendation.
Why can inventory cost basis differ from unit price?⌄
Purchase commitment always uses unit price. When you enter a landed cost per unit, inventory value and overstock value use that cost basis; otherwise they use unit price.
How is storage exposure estimated?⌄
The model uses a transparent linear sell-through estimate and caps the projection at your planning horizon. It is not a warehouse quote or storage-tier calculation.
Why is overstock risk sometimes not rated?⌄
When target inventory is zero, a ratio cannot be calculated safely. The tool shows Not rated instead of dividing by zero.
Can I compare suppliers in different currencies?⌄
No. V1 uses one display currency and does not convert currencies. Use Supplier Quote Comparison when you need manual FX normalization.
